Germany fuel rebate now largely reaches drivers: E10 and diesel below €2, but comparison still matters

The picture has changed since the first days of Germany's fuel rebate. ADAC reported Super E10 at €1.973 and diesel at €1.983 per litre on May 13, 2026. Both fuels are below the €2 mark for the first time since early March. At the same time, Germany's Monopolkommission now says the tax cut is largely reaching drivers after an initial lag. The practical takeaway is not to stop comparing prices, but to compare more deliberately.

ADAC May 13

E10 €1.973 · diesel €1.983

Both fuels are back below €2 per litre, creating a strong search trigger for German drivers.

Weekly trend

E10 −5.2 ct · diesel −11.2 ct

ADAC links the decline to the tax cut and lower Brent prices, but still sees room for further pump-price reductions.

Monopolkommission

largely passed through

The first week points to broad pass-through after an initial delay, but the assessment remains preliminary.

What the latest data really means

The headline that Germany's fuel rebate is now arriving is useful, but it does not end the price question. Three points matter more for Tank Alert users:

  • Below €2 is not a savings signal by itself. It only says the national average has fallen. The best local station can still be several cents cheaper.
  • Pass-through is clearly better than in the first days. Even so, ADAC still says the tax cut has not fully reached consumers yet.
  • The Monopolkommission still sees structural competition issues, especially at wholesale level. That fits the rockets-and-feathers pattern: prices rise fast and fall more slowly.
  • The noon rule still matters. According to ADAC, shortly before 12:00 remains the key comparison window before the single daily price increase.
